A blood red cocktail fit for any Halloween party

Just when you think Halloween will never be as fun as it was when we were kids, this Blood Bag Cocktail with Vodka comes along! It’s a tart and fruity pomegranate vodka cocktail served in IV bags for easy (and spooky) sipping. How much fun is that?!

The drink comes together in no time using a handful of fruit juices, vodka, and other flavor-boosters. Each sip is quite delightful and well-balanced with notes of pomegranate, citrus, and cherries. You’ll want to pair this blood red cocktail with just as creepy-looking (yet delicious) appetizer like these Eyeball Deviled Eggs or my Blood Splatter 7 Layer dip!

    Ingredients

Any fruity cocktail lover will get a kick out of this blood bag cocktail. All you need to make it are a handful of simple ingredients:

    Pomegranate juice

This is the base of the cocktail, providing it with a red color and tart flavors. My favorite pomegranate juice is by POM Wonderful. Feel free to stick with the original or customize this cocktail by using a flavored juice instead.

    Water

Ice plays a key role in most cocktail recipes, helping to dilute the strong alcohol. Because this Halloween cocktail isn’t shaken, stirred, or even served over ice, we need to replace it with water. The water ensures the cocktail turns out well-balanced and not overly sweet, fruity, or boozy.

    Vodka

No need to buy the fanciest, most expensive bottle of vodka here! Any unflavored mid-priced brand will do.

    Orange liqueur

An orange liqueur, like Cointreau or Triple Sec, adds a subtle citrusy orange flavor to the cocktail and a touch of sweetness. It’s a must-have for balance!

    Grenadine

It's sweet and fruity, adding balance and color to a wide variety of cocktails. You’ll find it in this blood-red Halloween punch. It helps add more sweetness and more pomegranate flavor to the drink.

Ingredients to make the cocktail from left to right: bottle of grenadine, bottle of lime juice, bottle of pomegranate juice, a small jar of water, a bottle of vodka, a bottle of bitters and a bottle of cointreau.

    Lime juice

The freshly squeezed citrus juice cuts right through the sweetness. Try not to skip it!

    Peychaud’s Bitters

Bitters play an integral role in this blood bag drink, adding depth to every sip. Without them and this cocktail wouldn’t be nearly as special.

How to make a blood bag cocktail

This cocktail is just as much fun to make as it is to drink! The process is simple:

Overhead of a large glass bowl with a measuring cup above it pouring a pomegranate juice into the bowl.
Step 1: Combine all ingredients into a large bowl.
Overhead of a large glass bowl filled with a deep red liquid and a hand holding a small measuring spoon with red food coloring.
Step 2: If using, whisk in the food coloring.
Overhead of a "blood bag" filled with a red liquid next to a syringe and the corner of a large bowl filled with the same red liquid.
Step 3: Carefully add 7.5 ounces of the cocktail into each blood bag. This recipe makes enough for 12 drinks.
