This Frozen Mudslide Without Ice Cream is a sweet and creamy cocktail you can sip on for a boozy dessert. All you need are four ingredients and a blender!
Dessert in a glass
Want to feel like you’re out at a trash Vegas casino living it up? Then forget the traditional cakes or cookies for dessert and make this creamy Frozen Mudslide instead! Made without ice cream, it’s blended with ice and liqueur to still create a refreshing and smooth cocktail that isn’t overly rich or boozy.
All you need are four simple ingredients. Blend them up and in seconds, you have a sweet treat you can sip on for dessert. It’s like a boozy adult chocolate milkshake but without the ice cream.
Just like a frozen mimosa or margarita, the smooth texture and bold flavors in this homemade frozen mudslide are outrageously good and guaranteed to impress your friends. Top each glass with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and chocolate shavings and you’re ready to sip the day away!
What is a mudslide?
The original mudslide cocktail recipe was invented at a bar in Grand Cayman Island in the 1970s. It was made with everything you’d use to make a white Russian but with Irish cream added.
Since then, frozen mudslides have become very popular and are usually made with vanilla ice cream instead of heavy cream. Just think of it as a boozy milkshake! Each sip, whether it’s made with or without ice cream, is delicious and refreshing.
Four ingredient frozen cocktail
No need to run to the grocery store! All you need are three different kinds of alcohol and some ice to make this frozen mudslide cocktail:
Save the high-end vodka for martinis! The two liqueurs in this recipe will take over in the flavor department, meaning you can get away with using a low or mid-priced vodka. If you want to add extra flavor and sweetness, go ahead and use vanilla or whipped cream flavored vodka instead.
A little coffee liqueur, like Kahlua, gives your Kahlua mudslide cocktail a touch of caffeine, rich chocolatey flavors, and a smooth texture. There are plenty of coffee liqueur brands out there, I like Mr. Black cold brew liqueur, so feel free to explore your options!
Irish cream liqueur
I chose to use Bailey’s in my mudslide but you can use any kind you love or have at home. Don’t feel like you need to settle for plain cream liqueur here! Experiment with the flavors and use salted caramel, espresso, almond milk, or chocolate cherry-flavored Bailey’s instead.
Make sure it’s fresh! Nobody likes the flavor of the ice from the back of your freezer.
How to make a homemade frozen mudslide
This easy dessert cocktail takes minutes to blend together. Perfect for right after dinner or when you’re craving a boozy sweet treat:
Step 1: Add all of the ingredients to a blender.
Step 2: Blend until smooth, then serve!
Tips and tricks
There are a few additions you can make to a Frozen Mudslide Without Ice Cream to give it an impressive presentation or when you want to make it just right. Follow these tips and tricks when making your frozen mudslides:
Make it fun!
Just like a milkshake, you can add lots of fun toppings to your mudslides. Drizzle chocolate syrup inside each glass and top them off with whipped cream. To finish, add some treats on top, like:
- Maraschino cherries
- Cocoa powder
- Chocolate or rainbow sprinkles
- Shaved chocolate
- Crumbled brownies or shortbread cookies
- Caramel sauce
Can I add ice cream?
Yes! If you make this recipe with ice cream, leave out 1 cup of ice and replace it with vanilla, sweet cream, coffee, or caramel ice cream. This drink will turn out much more creamy and rich.
I always recommend making a frozen blended cocktail in a high-powered blender, like a Vitamix, so everything blends together quickly and smoothly. If you don’t have one, you can use a regular blender and just blend it for longer.
Mudslides look great when served in a hurricane glass or a wide, tall glass. Finish it with a colorful paper or metal straw and sip away!
It's time to blend!
