A fancy and refreshing summer strawberry mocktail

Grab your fanciest dress, bow tie, or bathing suit because this Shaken Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktail is a must-have at every summer celebration. It’s easy to make using 4 simple ingredients and always tastes sweet, tart, and fruity. It’s like summer in a glass!

Much like my Cranberry Ginger Mocktail, this virgin strawberry daiquiri is much more fun and elegant to sip than the usual non-alcoholic options you’d find at parties. Your guests will love the refreshing and sweet taste of fresh strawberries, lime, and simple syrup shaken together in a cocktail shaker. Serve them in coupe or martini glasses topped with sparkling water to help everyone feel extra fancy!

I prefer to prepare daiquiri mocktails in a cocktail shaker rather than a blender with ice because they always turn out incredibly smooth and full of flavor.

    What is a daiquiri?

A classic daiquiri cocktail is as simple as it gets. Rum, lime juice, and simple syrup gives this Cuban drink a nice balance between sweet and sour. Daiquiri recipes are really fun because they’re so easy to customize!

Daiquiris can be both blended with ice and shaken in a cocktail shaker. Fresh fruit is best when making flavored varieties to achieve that delicious and refreshing fruity flavor. I made a non-frozen virgin daiquiri because I wanted to replicate the classic without the rum while restoring the fancy feeling you get with each sip.

What’s in a virgin strawberry mocktail?

This virgin strawberry daiquiri recipe is made with almost all of the same ingredients as the classic, minus the rum. Here’s what you need:

    Strawberries

Because the strawberries are muddled in the glass before being strained, I strongly recommend using seasonal fresh berries. These will give you the absolute best flavor and a gorgeous red color. Strawberries peak in June here in the US so be sure to pick up a pack or two when the time comes!

Don’t let a lack of fresh berries stop you from making strawberry mocktails year-round. Frozen strawberries can also be used in this recipe but must be thawed first.

    Lime juice

Every daiquiri recipe must be sweet and sour. That’s where lime juice comes in! Fresh lime juice is always best but bottled can be used in a pinch.

    Simple syrup

And this is where the important sweetness comes from. A splash of simple syrup not only makes each sip of this virgin strawberry daiquiri recipe a little sweet, but it also helps balance the tart flavors from the lime and berries.

Simple syrup is really easy to make at home. All you have to do is heat equal parts white sugar and water together in a pot on the stove until the sugar dissolves. Once it’s cool, use it in more summer mocktails.

    Sparkling water

This is used to replace the rum while also adding bubbles. If you don’t have plain sparkling water you can try tonic or lime-flavored sparkling water.

How to make a shaken strawberry daiquiri mocktail

It’s easy! Your shaken daiquiri mocktail is ready after a few simple steps:

muddling strawberries in a glass with a wood muddler.

Step 1: Muddle the strawberries in a cocktail shaker.

a glass filled with strawberries and liquid.

Step 2: Add the simple syrup and lime juice.

a glass filled with ice, strawberries, and liquid.

Step 3: Add the ice and shake until chilled.

2 glasses half full with a pink mocktail.

Step 4: Double strain into two glasses.

Step 5: Top each mocktail with sparkling water and enjoy!

    Recipe tips

There are a few things you should know before making this mocktail at home:

    Double strain the strawberries

Double straining is really important because it keeps this fancy mocktail recipe free of any strawberry chunks and seeds. To do this, you’ll need a cocktail shaker with a strainer and a small fine-mesh strainer. You can skip this step if you’re running low on time but it makes a huge difference in the taste and presentation.

    To double strain the mocktail:

    1. Shake the mocktail in the cocktail shaker as normal.
    2. Hold a fine mesh strainer over the cocktail glass.
    3. Pour the strawberry mixture through the strainer on the cocktail shaker through the fine mesh strainer and into the glass.

The strawberry chunks may slow you down as they hit the fine mesh strainer. If this happens, use a spoon or small silicone spatula to move the pulp around so the liquid can get through.

    Party-size mocktails

This mocktail recipe can easily be doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled if you’re serving a crowd. Just make a big batch of the strained strawberry base (everything except the sparkling water) and keep it in a pitcher in the fridge for up to 2 days. Keep in mind that, when it’s time to serve, each glass should have 3 ounces of the strawberry base and topped with 2 ounces of sparkling water.
